„We are in the epoch of simultaneity: we are in the epoch of juxtaposition, the epoch of the near and far, of the side-by-side, of the dispersed. We are at a moment, I believe, when our experience of the world is less that of a long life developing through time than that of a network that connects points and intersects with its own skein.“
Michel Foucault, ‚Of Other Spaces‘

What is the other – is it still possible to distinguish one from the other nowadays? What are „other“ spaces? This seminar focused on two seminal texts by Michel Foucault, well-known in architectural theory – ‚Of Other Spaces‘ on heterotopia and ‚Utopian Body‘. In two workshop sessions, we approached these texts in joint discussions: To what extent are Foucault’s thoughts and reflections still relevant in architectural theory today?
The following projects and theories were discussed in the seminar: Liam Young, Planet City | BIG, Masterplanet | Brandlhuber, Grawert, Hirsch, Roth, 2038, German Pavilion of the Architecture Biennale 2021 | Rittel&Webber, Wicked Problems | Netflix, Black Mirror | Dunne&Raby, Huggable Atomic Mushroom
This seminar took place in the winter semester in the Bachelor’s (4) at THN.
